Since 1979,
Ezer Mizion has offered medical assistance and support to thousands of individuals and families. Among our most impactful services is the Bone Marrow Donor Registry (BMDR), a network that helps identify genetic matches for patients who need bone marrow transplants.

How it Works

The BMDR weaves together three people for one lifesaving mission.

The patient in need

Our work saves lives and restores hope.

At one end of the thread is the patient who needs a bone marrow transplant (BMT). The goal of BMT is to replace the patient's unhealthy bone marrow with healthy bone marrow from a genetic match.

BMT has been used successfully to treat patients with life-threatening diseases, such as leukemia and other blood cancers. Many of these patients have been unable to find a donor within their families.

Patients are relying on Ezer Mizion to deliver lifesaving care when no one else can. Without the BMDR, they might not find a suitable donor whose healthy bone marrow can save their life.

The bone marrow donor

Each swap has the potential to save a life.

Over a million potential donors have submitted genetic samples to the BMDR. Each sample is tested and added to the registry, where it may one day match a patient in need. Not every swab becomes a transplant, but more tested samples mean more potential matches.

When Ezer Mizion finds a match, donors undergo a short outpatient procedure to collect their healthy bone marrow, which is later used to treat a patient.
